Welcome Juniors!

You probably have many questions about NCC and wonder what to expect from the program. This page is designed to bring you up to speed and excited about the season ahead...

Practice Sessions

Mon, Tue, Thur, Fri 3:15-5:15pm and Saturdays 9:15-11:15am or a part time schedule as you have arranged. Give notice if you will be missing practice, hopefully several days in advance. Try to schedule orthodontist appointments and such things at other times, as the crew your regularly row with needs you to be there.

It is important to be on time so the coach knows you are there and can put you in a boat.

Wear non-baggy layered clothing for all types of weather, as we only come off the water if there is lightning, high winds or heavy rain. Cotton clothes get wet and stay wet. Walmart, Target, the Brooks outlet in Mill Creek and other sporting goods stores carry performance clothes.

Bring a full set of spare clothes in case you flip. Everyone does it sometime , and you will need to get dry.

Keep your nails clipped as your hands will cross in sculling and you'll cut yourself.

If you have long hair or bangs, bring hair ties. You will want to keep your hair out of your face so you can see what is going on.

Bring one or two full water bottles every day. Use the refillable ones so we don't have to worry about trash in the parking lot.

Have a snack on your way to rowing. You'll be exercising hard for a couple of hours! Bring a high-protein snack to eat on the way home. You should have a little protein within a half an hour of your workout for muscle building.

While at practice, respect the area and your teammates. You are in a public place with townspeople and residents nearby. You represent our team so keep your behavior appropriate. No cussing, driving erratically in parking lot, loud music, et cetera. We don't have lockers, so stay out of other people's bags as a general rule. If you have an issue with a teammate that is hard to resolve, ask for help and don't let it escalate.

For safety, we will have one parent on land during each practice. There will be a schedule created and everyone needs to take a turn or do other volunteer duties if unable because of work. The parent does not function as a coach, but to be on hand in case of emergency and to generally supervise kids on land while the coach ison the water. It is not the parent's job to run part of the program while serving in this capacity. The kids will have a land workout they need to take the responsibility to do.

Regattas

Regatta fees, travel and food costs are not included in your monthly fees or in the joining fee. They are on a pay-as-you go basis. Regatta fees are actual costs divided among participants. Each person will pay their own entry fees, plus a share of trailering, lodging, food and other associated costs. The kids will be doing fundraisers to offset the costs of the major regattas. Regatta fees must be paid in advance of the regatta, as the club does not have the money to float expenses.

The expensive regattas are Brentwood and Regionals. At all regattas, we will be doing our best to keep costs down as low as possible. You will be notified well in advance of the expected fee.

If you cannot attend a regatta, please tell the coach at least one month in advance. Regatta entries are submitted well in advance of the event, and they will need to know exactly which members of the crew will be available to place in boats.
